Julia de Guzman is a filmmaker & writer whose work focuses on the human side of climate, science, & social justice.

She began her career at HBO Documentary Films & most recently co-produced The Arc of Oblivion: a feature documentary from Executive Producer Werner Herzog.

In 2022, she directed & edited a short film, Born Curious, about the life of prolific solo-explorer JR Harris.

Previously, she created a series of short films for the National Park Service through a grant from the National Parks Foundation with the aim of highlighting New York’s wilder side.

Currently, she is producing Tree People, a documentary about trees and the people who love them, Shelf Life, about the delightfully quirky world of cheesemakers, Fight Like Hell, a historical fiction film about (in)famous labor leader Mother Jones, & The Observers, a globe-tromping epic documentary about scientific and artistic observation.

In addition, she is writing and directing Leaves of Three, an experimental hybrid short about poison ivy, land protection, and bodily autonomy.

Her work has been selected for festivals including Tribeca, SXSW, CPH:DOX, DCEFF, The International Wildlife Film Festival, DOC NYC, AFI DOCS, CIFF, & IFF Boston.

Julia’s projects have aired on networks including HBO, Showtime, PBS, A&E, BET, NHK & have been featured on programs like Frontline & Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.

She also produces video content & branded campaigns for clients including The New Yorker, The National Park Service, Women’s March, The Environmental Defense Fund, The Ford Foundation, The Fund for the City of New York, Montauk Brewing, & Fjällräven Apparel.
